A micro-credential is displayed through the use of a digital badge that verifies a student鈥檚 area of expertise, skill, or competency.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microcredentials
Nope! Once your badge proposal is approved, you can go about teaching your course as you normally would. You do not need to integrate new tests, projects, or assessments into the semester unless you want to. CTL will be in touch with you to confirm the students that earned badges but beyond that there is no additional work on your end.
No, this is not a requirement. This is just another opportunity to help highlight a student鈥檚 knowledge and skills that they are taking away from your course.
Absolutely! You can create as many badging opportunities as you would like. It is easy to turn earning badges into a game which can help keep students engaged and motivated.
No, microcredentials are not an additional certification of any kind. They are just a tangible representation of learning outcomes.
This can be a toughest part of the process. If you are struggling with coming up with ideas for badges, take a look at your syllabus for content areas or common themes that stand out and go from there. Also, feel free to set up a one-on-one consultation with Faith as she can do some market research to help guide you.
As the instructor, this is completely up to you, but it is not uncommon for a three credit course to have 2-3 badges tied to it.
Within 24 hours of a student earning a badge, they will receive an email from Credly (admin@credly.com) with instructions on how to accept their badge. Nothing will ever be accepted or published without the student鈥檚 consent. They are in full control over accepting, publishing, and sharing their accomplishment.

Faith joined the eCampus team in 2016. She brought with her a background in student support and success. Within eCampus, she has worked as the Student Success Specialist, Exam Services Manager, and Program Success Coordinator. In Spring 2024, she joined the Center for Teaching and Learning鈥檚 Design Team (DT). Within the DT, Faith focuses on faculty communication and recruitment, oversees the microcredentialing program for the Troth Yeddha campus.
When she is not at work, you can find her either spending time with her family or off shooting her bow.
