Dr. Howard C. Sparks

Professor of Accounting, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Howard C. Sparks has served the University of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1994 to 2025; and

WHEREAS Dr. Sparks taught highly technical and demanding courses, yet his patience and respect for his students made him a very popular teacher; and ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ’s student accounting club presented him with multiple outstanding teacher and service awards; and he regularly participated in many student professional development activities outside the classroom; and

WHEREAS Dr. Sparks is recognized nationally for his expertise in accounting information systems, auditing and governmental and nonprofit accounting; and his publications have been cited extensively; and he has conducted economic consulting on a number of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ projects; and

WHEREAS Dr. Sparks served for 15 years as director of the accounting program and expanded its enrollment substantially; and he served on multiple ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ committees; and he has served on the boards of Family Centered Services of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ and the Spirit of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Credit Union;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Howard C. Sparks for his extensive contributions to the state of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Sparks and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Howard C. Sparks as professor of accounting, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Howard C. Sparks, and conveyed to Dr. Sparks on this third day of May, 2025.
