ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Day at the fair scheduled for July 29

The University of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Fairbanks will host ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair on Tuesday, July 29.

ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ employees, students, alumni and friends will receive $1 off admission by wearing ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ apparel or showing their PolarExpress card. The day will include ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ activities throughout the fairgrounds.

The University Fire Department’s fire truck, a hockey slap-shot net, a corn hole game and the giant inflatable Nanook will be set up in Totem Square from noon to 7 p.m. Nook, ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ’s mascot, will be on site from 1-3 p.m.

Inside the Borealis Pavilion, ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ will have several special exhibits and activities:

•     Build marshmallow structures inside an inflatable igloo.
•     Visit an inflatable science dome and learn about the Gulf of ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ.
•     Learn about reindeer and muskoxen.
•     Participate in hands-on science activities.

In addition to these special activities, ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ also will have booths in the Borealis Pavilion during the fair. Visitors can meet museum experts and student researchers, learn about recreation opportunities on campus and find more than 125 free ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Cooperative Extension Service publications covering gardening, energy, food preparation and more. Cooperative Extension will host several 4-H activities on ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓƵ Day, including rabbit, cavy and poultry shows, arts and crafts, and photography.
