Apply now for ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ R1 Troth Yeddha’ (Round 5) Ph.D. Financial Awards

There are three opportunities to apply for ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ R1 Troth Yeddha’ Ph.D. Financial Awards in this fifth round of funding opportunities. These will support a limited number of prospective/incoming and currently enrolled ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ Ph.D. students for fall 2025 and spring 2026.
The award categories include: (1) Recruitment Awards for prospective and/or recently admitted Ph.D. students for fall 2025, (2) Retention Awards for currently enrolled ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ Ph.D. students, and (3) Completion Awards for ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ Ph.D. students scheduled to graduate in fall of 2025. Awards options vary for each category and typically include tuition/consolidated fee waivers and research assistantship packages (tuition and consolidated fee waiver, stipend and health insurance).
Awards are contingent on a student being enrolled in a ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ Ph.D. program in fall 2025. Additional eligibility criteria, specific award opportunities, and application instructions for each category can be found below. The deadline to apply for all three of these award opportunities is May 2, 2025 (11:59 p.m.). Applications that are late, incomplete, or do not meet the eligibility criteria, will not be considered.
- Recruitment Awards: Faculty can apply on behalf of a prospective or newly admitted Ph.D. student who will
start a ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ Ph.D. program in fall of 2025. Awards can include tuition/consolidated
fee waiver or full RA packages. Prospective or recently admitted Ph.D. students are
eligible for TYPFA if they:
- have submitted a complete Ph.D. application to study at ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ beginning in fall 2025
- have met the admission requirements of their Ph.D. program
- have been identified by the supervising faculty as a competitive student for the Ph.D. program and strong fit for their research group
- If a faculty member has identified a prospective or newly admitted student that meets
these requirements, the faculty mentor must submit a TYPFA application on behalf of
the student. Awards are contingent upon the student enrolling in a ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ Ph.D. program
for fall 2025. .
- Retention Awards: Currently enrolled students in ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ Ph.D. programs can apply for tuition/fee waivers, travel to work with their advisor (distance students only), research expenses, teaching-buy out (for ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ Ph.D. pursuing faculty only) or a full or part-time RA package, for fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters. This award prioritizes current students who demonstrate the ability to graduate within the R1 time frame (by spring 2026 or spring 2029). Students who have not previously received Troth Yeddha’ funding are particularly encouraged to apply. . In order to be eligible for consideration, both student application and faculty referral forms must be completed prior to the May 2 deadline.
- Completion Awards: Currently enrolled ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ Ph.D. students planning to graduate in fall of 2025 can apply for awards including tuition/fee waivers (1-3 credits), health insurance, and stipend. This award is only eligible for students planning to graduate in the fall 2025 semester. .
