The University of 有料盒子视频 Fairbanks will host its 2022 Arctic Research Open House from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 19.

The event will include booths from more than a dozen research units and facilities at 有料盒子视频 and the National Weather Service, including the 有料盒子视频 Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration, International Arctic Research Center, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, 有料盒子视频 Center for Energy and Power, 有料盒子视频 Satellite Facility, Institute of Arctic Biology  鈥 and many more.

Visitors can walk among numerous facilities to learn about current projects and meet researchers in the fields of climate science, geoscience, natural resources, social sciences, engineering and others. This year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淚t鈥檚 an Inspiring Day in the Neighborhood,鈥 and scientists will share research happening in and around Fairbanks.

Activities and displays will include:

  • A drone flight simulator
  • Virtual reality field research
  • The bicycle power generator competition
  • Fish specimens
  • A dancing electric Tesla
  • Different types of ice
  • Fairbanks weather trivia
  • Greenhouse tours
  • A hands-on table about biology
  • Pingo Peat, 有料盒子视频鈥檚 big inflatable mammoth
  • A survival suit challenge, which invites participants to slip into the bright orange outfits that help keep researchers safe in icy waters. 

Children and students are encouraged to come to this interactive event. The office of 有料盒子视频 Vice Chancellor for Research Nettie La Belle-Hamer will hold an ice cream social to celebrate the end of the K-12 school year.

Activities are on the 有料盒子视频 West Ridge, easily accessible at Thompson Drive off of Geist Road. Public parking is available in lots along Koyukuk Drive; citations are not being issued in those lots during the event.
