Aaron Scheffler new Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management director

Aaron Scheffler, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Associate Safety and Health Manager, has been selected to serve as the director of Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management. Scheffler comes to ÓÐÁϺÐ×ÓÊÓÆµ with more than 23 years of experience.

Throughout his career, Scheffler has applied his expertise in higher education and international settings. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in environmental science and industrial hygiene from the University of Houston – Clear Lake.

He began his career in 2002 in the Environmental Health and Safety division of Texas A&M University, and has since held a variety of positions in the Texas A&M University System, including director of risk management and safety at Prairie View A&M University and quality assurance and safety manager at the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Lab.

Scheffler comes to us from a joint campus in Doha, Qatar as the director of EHS. Scheffler’s experience has involved multifaceted roles and responsibilities in both R1 and R2 institutions that include, but are not limited to, Institutional Review Board, Institutional Biosafety Committees, and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee experience. He is also versed in asbestos inspection, Incident Command Systems, HAZMAT and Lab Safety. He is a Certified Hazardous Material Manager and Associate Safety and Health Manager.

Other university work responsibilities have designated Aaron as a proud Plank Owner of the TS Texas Clipper II where he gained his sea legs and placed him as member of the EHS team assigned to commission labs aboard the R/V JOIDES Resolution research vessel.

When away from the office, he enjoys spending time with family, travel, new experiences, slow smoking brisket, and fine tuning a new cooking adventure.
